As we all know when I’m not blogging, running my Etsy shop, or running my Mary Kay business I am working full time for a petrochemical company in the marketing division. With that being said, I know a thing or two about looking the part, aka looking professional. For any fresh graduates reading this, this is a MUST READ for you while you hunt for your future dream job. I’ve teamed up with a new program by Procter and Gamble called Face the World. This is a program designed to help all of you freshly graduated students or all of you who are still looking for THE job.
First things first. Your appearance is your first impression. It doesn’t matter if you have a 4.0 GPA, if you don’t look the part (meaning professional and neat) you most likely will not get a call back. This is when “don’t judge a book by its cover” doesn’t apply. I wanted to share with you a few musts for your online LinkedIn profile or even an interview.

Let’s start off with your face. I usually go through my skincare routine and apply makeup before doing my hair. You need to look neat, clean, and fresh. Don’t ever look tired! With this being said, either learn how to edit photos really well or if you’re going for an interview do not go to the bar the night before. Prior to applying makeup if you’re like me and try your best to remove makeup the night before but you still feel a little is still there use these Olay Fresh Effects wipes. They are so nice and soothing and take everything right off. Follow up with using the soothing gel in case you need something to really wake you up. Once that has dried my new favorite little tube is this eye cream that wakes up your eyes. It’s a miracle in a tube. If you are one of those people who like myself were unfortunately blessed with the raccoon eyes and dark circles this should be in your cosmetic bag as of yesterday.

So now you feel refreshed. What a great way to start prepping for the day right? Ok, so now let’s move on to the makeup part. Believe it or not these three babies are all you really need for the basics of a professional look. You don’t want to look like you just went out to a club, or that you are prepping for a photo shoot. Start with your foundation. This will make all of those unwanted flaws disappear. What I like about this foundation is it’s very light and it doesn’t feel caked on once you apply. My usual routine also includes a little bronzer to add some contouring to my face and a little blush to add some extra color but those aren’t pictured here. Let’s move onto your eyes. Try to steer clear of a smokey eye unless it is extremely (emphasis on the extremely) light. To keep it on the safe side apply a little bit of a shimmer shadow of your choice. This will lighten up your eyes and make you look even livelier. This mascara is great. It goes on without clumping and we all know that, that is a huge no when using mascara. This one is brown and I don’t normally use brown unless I want it to be subtle. Once you are finished with this just take the lip crayon and glide it over your lips. What’s great about this pink is it’s light enough to not look like you are trying to be Barbie and dark enough that it doesn’t look like you have a nude lip. Don’t get me wrong there is absolutely nothing wrong with either of those, but when trying to look the part of a professional you need to be subtle in all the right ways.
Let’s move on to hair. I honestly just put in my hair extensions every day and tease my thin and limp hair until I show the illusion of having a full head of hair. Now a regular do would be good for a profile picture on LinkedIn but when going on an interview I suggest wearing your hair slicked back and in a bun if possible. You can even get away with wearing a high bun which I like better because I don’t have pieces of hair falling in my face. The bun in the picture came out a little messier that I would’ve liked but my hair was just not cooperating with me, but at least you get the idea. With making sure your hair stays the whole time you will definitely need some hairspray if you have hair like me. My hair is so fine that I can’t even keep clips in it because they will slide out within minutes. This is why when I put in my extensions I tease my hair so it almost makes a knot. I know it sounds painful but whenever I can’t do anything else, that’s where the hairspray comes in.
Deodorant. Believe it or not I went on an interview once with no deodorant. I almost cried. Thank goodness I had a body mist with me so I improvised, but this deodorant would’ve come in handy. I use Secret deodorant on a daily basis, I have it in my purse, my work bag, and my bathroom. Now I have an extra one which is always awesome. It stays on all day and I don’t have to reapply thankfully.
How awesome is it to have freshly shaved legs. It feels nice and it just makes you feel fresh. I usually wear a pant suit so shaving isn’t number one on my list, however, it still makes me feel ready to take on the day (or in this case interview)!
