Birthday Nails

As most of you know, I celebrated my birthday this past weekend.  In honor of it being my birthday I decided to paint my nails with some celebratory designs.  I was going to match it to my outfit, but I thought it would be cuter to do a typical birthday nail design.

These are all of the colors I used.  The nail chic art pens come as a set and I’ve had these since my birthday last year.  Then the rest of my brands are Sally Hansen, Sinful Colors, and OPI.

If you look at the picture of all of my polishes you’ll see all the way to the right, the OPI topcoat and the Sally Hansen maximum strength base coat.  I wanted to show all of you how important this maximum strength base coat is.  I paint my nails at least once (sometime’s twice) a week.  As I’m sure you all know this is a lot for nails to handle.  I swear by maximum strength and you can tell by my nails that the yellowing isn’t as bad as it should be for how much damage I do to my nails with polishes, removers, and buffing it.  This post is not sponsored by Sally Hansen, but in my opinion I will never switch to anything else because I think the results above show that this stuff is no joke.  I also switched up my nails a little, it’s not as noticeable because I was a little scared to do a complete oval nail so I just rounded out the edges ever so slightly.  I actually like it better than the squared shape.

Let’s move on to the tutorial now, shall we?  The above are the colors that I used.

Then I did a french manicure with a darker pink on the first nail.  I took black nail polish for the second nail and made dots for the future balloons, and on the ring finger I made lines for candles.

This is where the fun part starts.  Take a white nail art pen for the first finger and make almost like a cloud over the light and dark pink.  For the black dots draw inside of them with different colors for the balloons.  Later on you’ll add white lines to the balloons to make them look “shiny.”  Add a black line for the wick on the candles and use the white pen for the lines and dots on the candles.  Use the rest of the nail art pens to make the dots on the thumb and pinky.  This gives it a little confetti look.

This is where you finish off your nail art, dot the i’s and cross the t’s.  Add sprinkles with colored lines and the cherry on top.  Add your “shine” lines to your balloons.  Last but not least add your flame to your candles.  Once all of these are dried you’re ready to use your OPI top coat.

This design took me about 1.5 hours.  It wasn’t very complicated, just time consuming.  Enjoy painting!
