This week there is a theme on the blog if you haven’t
noticed. We are full blown pink and
talking about Breast Cancer Awareness.
Since today is Health and Fitness day I wanted to take a little focus on
talking about Breast Cancer, statistics, prevention, and how important it is to
get routine checkups and to pay attention to those warning signs. Most of my information I found from the Susan
G. Komen website (here).

Did you know that 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast
cancer? 1 in 8, wow. That is a pretty high number. Put yourself next to seven of your friends,
see how scary of a ratio that is? In
2012 there were 1.7million new cases of breast cancer diagnosis. Also, keep in mind that these statistics
include men as well. Even though breast
cancer affects women predominantly, it can affect men as well. Studies show that 1% of all breast cancer
cases occur in men. (source)

On Susan G. Komen’s website they talk about the warning
signs and symptoms. Unfortunately
warning signs are not the same for all women.
Most of us have been to our gynecologist and at least my doctor showed
me how to self test. You feel for lumps,
hard knots in both the breast and underarm area. Make sure to pay attention to swelling,
redness, or darkening. Now, don’t
mistaken the swelling with that time of the month symptoms. Just do self tests regularly and examine
yourself. At first I felt weird because
well, I’m touching my boob, BUT after I got over that weird reality I thought
this is part of your body and no one knows it better than you. You may feel something that a doctor won’t
because you know it wasn’t there before.
There are more warning signs that are common that can be found
here(warning signs).
