Today my blog turns 5! I can’t even comprehend that I’ve been doing this for 5 years, and consistently. There are so many things I have learned while blogging, from simple HTML, to things about myself as a person. I am so thankful for the friendships I’ve made through this blog. Some of these cyber friendships of mine have turned into real life friendships. I met my blogger bestie at Lucky FABB back in 2013 and we’ve been meeting each other every few months ever since then. I’ve learned how to migrate my blog from Blogger to WordPress and learned basic HTML. I’ve learned more about photography and editing. I’m still an amateur, but I’m still proud of how far I’ve come. It would’ve never happened without the blog.
I want to thank all of you for reading this blog whether it be for the past 5 years, or just for a few days. It’s thanks to y’all that I come here and write my thoughts and share my outfits. For today’s post I want to share 5 things I’ve learned in the past 5 years.
- I can do anything I put my mind to
I never thought I would be able to create something like my blog and stick to it for this long. I was able to migrate from Blogger to WordPress because I was determined to do it on my own. I learned basic photography and editing skills. I’m nowhere near good, but for someone who learned just by tutorials I’d say I’m pretty alright. I have written some articles on here that I didn’t think I ever would’ve and even got a good response from them! I’m so proud of how far I have come.
2. Don’t ever give up
I know I recently talked about wanting to shut down this blog, and trust me, this was NOT the only time I thought this. There have been times where I said this in the past 5 years. When I wasn’t doing well, I did something to switch it up so that I wasn’t bored with my blog. I’ve changed my fashion style, editing style, etc. I do this to keep myself on my toes. I don’t like being bored and complacent.
3. Don’t compare
You can’t compare yourself to anyone else. I did this a lot and I would only get discouraged. You have to find your niche/target market. Once you find that one thing that works for you, stick to it! I am still working on building my following, and it may never happen, it may happen this year, who knows? I’m not going to compare myself to other bloggers out there because we are all different. Once you start comparing yourself, it no longer becomes fun. I started this blog for fun, not to become a full time blogger.
4. Be yourself
Sometimes it’s extremely hard to be yourself when you see a bunch of bloggers doing the same thing and making it big. Don’t be a sell out. I’ll shut down this blog before I start acting like other people. I like what I like, and it’s extremely hard to change that about me. I don’t go along with the crowd and I question everything. I may like some trends but I won’t wear them the same as other bloggers. I won’t sit there and talk about Nordstrom through my affiliates just because you get a higher commission. I’ll talk about brands I actually like.
5. The internet is your friend
Everything I’ve learned is from the internet. Youtube has become my best friend when it comes to tutorials. I hate the internet but love it all at the same time haha. When it comes to research about building my following and things like that, I just hop onto Google and look stuff up. When I got my new camera I started reading more about the camera and it’s features and watching tutorials and then practicing at the same time.
Again, thank you for following along, cheers to another 5 years!
