Monday Motivation: Stop Comparing Your Workout/Diet Program to Others

**DISCLAIMER:  I AM NOT A DOCTOR, TRAINER, NUTRITIONIST, OR DIETITIAN.  THIS POST IS BASED SOLELY ON MY EXPERIENCE.  I AM NOT AN EXPERT.  PRIOR TO STARTING ANY DIET/WORKOUT PROGRAM SEEN ON MY BLOG, PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DOCTOR SO THAT YOU DON’T HARM YOUR BODY AND HEALTH.  I AM NOT LIABLE FOR ANY HEALTH ISSUES THAT MAY ARISE IF YOU TRY A DIET WITHOUT CONSULTING YOUR DOCTOR FIRST.

There are so many different diets and workout programs out there.  From MLM companies like Beachbody, to fad diets, to other health and fitness gurus, and doctors telling you what you need to do to stay fit or healthy.

The truth is, there are so many different programs out there because every single person’s body is different.  We are also evolving, so we are always looking into new ways to stay fit and healthy.  What one body reacts well to, another one will not.  Some gurus and even doctor’s prefer to take a holistic approach, whereas others are completely different.  I’m sick and tired of people comparing their workout programs or what they choose to do and almost seem demeaning towards others.  This is not your fitness journey that you are being demeaning about, this is someone else’s fitness journey.  What right do you have to put someone down for their own choices?  Maybe that girl you are making fun of who doesn’t have muscles and only does cardio can’t lift due to restrictions.  Or maybe, she just doesn’t want her body to look a certain way.  Not everyone wants a big butt like the Kardashians.  Some people want to just be healthy and not be in the gym religiously.  Maybe that person who is on a specific diet (even if it’s a fad diet) was put on that diet by their doctor because their body reacts well to it.  So you do intermittent fasting and it works for you, but be prepared for someone else to tell you how bad it is for you, or how they think it’s a bunch of BS.

How do you know if the person you are putting down may be overcoming an eating disorder, and you’re just doing the opposite of being the support they need?

STOP!  STOP IT!  AGAIN, I REPEAT FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK, STOP!

I’ve seen so many people put others down, or even say things like, I don’t understand why fitness people are showing photoshop versus not photoshop photos on Instagram, you’re just trying to hard to be relatable and we all know it’s for attention.  Um, what?  But you turn around and contradict yourself and do a makeup versus no makeup selfie so that you’re relatable to your followers?  People have been complaining about these big influencers not being relatable, and the second they are, you give them negative feedback for it?  However, you’re the one preaching for empowerment and positive vibes only?!  WHAT?!  Whenever I see this, I’m just left absolutely speechless.

My body in general reacts better to lifting, and it’s extremely easy for me to build muscle that way, whereas genetically, my body reacts terribly to cardio.  I have to work twice as hard as the average person to see results from cardio.  However, I cannot lift like I would like to because of injuries that I have.  I have to do cardio because of other health issues/side effects from medication that cause me to gain weight faster than the average person, but I also have to be restrictive because of the injuries I have.  So, do you see how it’s not so simple for a lot of people?

Did you also ever stop to think that doctor’s are different?  What one doctor may think is healthy, another one will disagree.  Here’s an idea for y’all.  Watch this video, to see how the health and nutrition world has changed over the years and is constantly changing.  Unless you are from the future, and you know exactly how each and every single human being dies from and what caused that problem whether it be high cholesterol or diabetes, you really don’t know what’s healthy and what’s not.

Take a look at BMI.  How long have doctors been using this as a measurement to your health?  If you go past the average bracket (of a measurement that was devised in the 1830’s!) you’re considered overweight or obese.  Now, as an example, I went to the doctor and weighed in over the BMI chart for my height, and she said that I was overweight.  I was 15lbs lighter than I am now, and I actually look and feel better now than I did back then because I have more muscle mass.  Talk about a flawed chart, and talk about how behind some doctors are.  How can they still be using a chart that doesn’t measure what is ACTUALLY healthy.  This chart doesn’t measure your bloodwork, or your muscle mass, or even how much of a percentage of water you have in your system.  So you’re telling me that some doctors will think you’re healthy based on that chart because of your height/weight, however you may be for example anemic and extremely unhealthy.

I know that this post has turned into a bit of a rant, but I’m so sick and tired of seeing people preaching empowerment and how they support others, but they turn around and shame another group of people.  You may not agree with someone else’s life choices, or what their fitness journey is, but you don’t have to be demeaning.  This is not your journey.

xoxo Monica
