A Fashion, Lifestyle, Mom, and Anti Scam Blog

How I decorate my home with macrame & Lilly in Pink Etsy Shop is now Re-Opened! & a Linkup

I’ve been extremely full of announcements lately.  From my photography site being up and running, becoming a Rebellia Ambassador, to now, re-opening my Etsy Shop!

Some of you have been here since the very beginning of this blog of mine, so you already know that at one point many years ago I had opened my Etsy shop to sell hand painted Jars with hand made clay figurines.  This then later blossomed into also selling handmade wire bangles.  If you couldn’t tell, I love to create things.  I’m constantly looking at new ways to make handmade items.  I have a very creative mind and the great thing about macrame is yes, it’s just making knots and turning them into designs, but it’s extremely therapeutic.  Plus, I get to decorate my home with things I have made.  Some of which I have listed in my Etsy shop, but I will be making extras for my home.  Basically, the things that took me the longest to do (like the wall hanging pictured above, the unraveling of that cord took days) will be staying in my home.  It’s just not worth to sell some of these bigger projects because I’d basically be charging for my time, and I don’t want my pricing to be astronomical.  I’m currently in the process of trying to figure out if I want to tackle a much bigger project that would be for my living room.  The only issue is that I have really high ceilings, so I don’t know if it would look strange or like it doesn’t fit.  We shall see what I decide to do!  I also have some fashion pieces that will be available in my store (earrings, purses, market bags, etc.), but I’ll introduce those pieces next week!

Anyway, here is a little tour of how I decorate my home with macrame wall hangings.  If you can’t picture where these are in my house, check out this house tour for a better visual image of my home.  My dumb self didn’t really get too much of the backgrounds into the photos, but I’ll explain where they are and what not.  I was also wondering if any of you would like for me to create a tutorial on some macrame projects.  I have a lot of projects going on so I’m not sure how fast I could get one made, but I’m always ready to do anything!  If you couldn’t tell by now, I like to keep busy.  I’ll also link some of these items to their designated listing in my store.

My Favorite Macrame Wall Hanging

This piece I’m never selling.  It’s currently hanging in my dining room.  It took me about 4 days to make.  The actual knots at the top of this piece was the really easy part.  It’s the bottom have where it took the longest.  Unraveling the cords took days.  I saw that someone made a similar piece but they only unraveled a few pieces of cord just to fluff it up a bit, but I wanted to go all out haha.  This almost reminds me of a beard!  You can’t unsee it now (insert laughing emoji)!

Mini Berries Macrame

Can purchase here.

This piece is currently hanging at the family businesses retail location.  It’s extremely small and fits perfectly for any tiny space.  You could even probably hang this in your work office/cubicle depending on how much space you have.  I made it with berry knots.  These are actually some of my favorite knots.  They aren’t complex, and they look adorable.

Black Mandala Macrame Wall Hanging/Table Center Piece

Can purchase here.

I loved making this piece.  It was something different.  When you think of macrame, you think of just the regular wall hangings, but this one was so unique.  You could use it as a wall hanging, or as a center piece for your table.

She Said Yes White Heart Macrame

Can purchase here.

I love love love making cute designs with macrame.  This heart was perfect!  I found pure white cord and instantly thought of weddings and bridal showers.  I thought this would be perfect for the wild child bride.  I currently haven’t found the perfect spot for it, but I just love looking at it in my dining room (it won’t be staying in that room though).

Yellow Mandala/Sun Burst Wall Hanging/Table Centerpiece

Can purchase here.

When I saw this bright yellow cord, I had no idea what I was going to make.  I decided to make a yellow version of the earlier macrame piece that I made.  It’s not quite the same (I ran out of cord because I miscalculated lol), but very similar.  You can use this as a center piece, but I also sewed a little hook on the back for it to hang on the wall as well.  Since this piece is much smaller than the black one, the little hook will be enough to hold it, unlike the bigger loop I made for the black one.  I prefer it to be hanging in the one guest room that we have, next to the dream catcher that my future sister in law made.

Macrame Dolls (No they aren’t Voodoo dolls lol)

Can purchase here, here, and here.

My fiance thinks these look like Voodoo dolls.  Ok, they kind of do, but that was not my intention when I made them.  I thought they would be cute to decorate a kids room, or you could put them on a keychain if you really want.  I personally like them better just hanging out in the guest room that we have because that room is pink and super girly.

Red Owl Macrame

This piece I won’t be selling either.  It was one of the first pieces I made, and it was the first complex piece that I did.  This is currently hanging in the other guest bedroom.  Sorry for the lighting and the grain, it gets so dark in that room that I can’t get any good pictures.

My Very First Macrame Wall Hanging

This I will never sell, only because it was my first one.  I was so proud of this piece when I was done.  I know it’s kind of small compared to the other pieces, an almost sad looking, but it was my first and took me a little bit to make.  This is how I made to make some basic knots.  You can’t tell from the picture, but the little black fringe on the bottom is a feather.  This piece is currently hanging in our master bedroom.

Happy Mother’s Day Macrame

This I made for my mom for Mother’s Day.  She loves wearing black, so I thought a black wall hanging would be perfect for her.  It’s smaller so she could put it next to her desk, or even above her nightstand.  Since I moved, it’s been really difficult for my mom and I.  We are so used to hanging out a lot and talking every day.  With the move, I’ve tried to keep up with video chats, but with the death of my grandparents and now our family dog is slowly getting to that point of crossing the rainbow bridge, it’s been rough.  This piece took me a long time, only because of the unraveling of the cord.

Macrame Plant Hanger

This was a plant hanger that I made for my brother.  He’s super into his plants and so, I needed to make this for him.  I haven’t made any more of these because you use a ton of macrame cord, and it’s just not super cost effective for me at the moment.  I’m sure it’s also because I’m buying my cord at craft stores and haven’t just ordered off of Amazon, but it’s more convenient for me right now to just quickly go to the store.  I’ve also seen people selling these on Etsy for a really cheap price and I would love to know where they get their cord from, because at prices like that (if the hangers are as long as mine) they have to be getting cord somewhere for a steal.  It would honestly save me money in the end to just buy a plant hanger.  It’s not that the cord costs the same as the actual hanger, but it’s a mix of the cost of the cord, and the time it would take me to make it.  I’m still fairly slow at creating macrame pieces because I only just started making them.

Lilly In Pink Grand Re-Opening Deals

I’ve decided that I’m going to run some deals for my grand re-opening!  If you follow my Etsy Shop’s Instagram (here) you’ll get 10% off, just DM me prior to purchasing anything and I will send you the discount code.  I will also be offering FREE shipping on all orders over $35 up until August 1st 2019!

Now, let’s move on to the linkup!

I’m currently trying to figure out if I want to tackle a giant piece or keep making normal size ones. We have really tall ceilings in the living room so I don’t want it to look awkward and tiny haha.

So creative and amazing! I can’t believe macrame is back in style, but I love it. I just bought some macrame plant hangers.

My mom can’t believe it either haha. She was so shocked when I said I was learning how to do it. There are so many gorgeous pieces out there too. I saw an giant eagle piece. I want to try and make it because if I wanted to buy it, it’s hundreds of dollars.

I think these macrame pieces are so fun! They’re on my radar for my desk decor project, I’m a bit worried about the dust they collect though…

Yea, that’s the one thing that I have no idea how to take care of yet. I’m assuming just using undusting it and then taking it outside and hitting it like a rug should do the trick haha. That’s the only thing I can think of.

This is so awesome Monica! Your pieces are beautiful and I can see why you wouldn’t sell a couple of the pieces. They are worth the sentimental value but for the ones you are selling, it all looks great! I love the little dolls. Too cute if you ask me and I am all about cutesy things! Congratulations on your Etsy shop too. You are on a roll! Happy Sunday!
