Now that I live in Florida, I’ve seen how hot it can get, and how hard it makes certain things. Besides working in the garden and doing outdoor activities, a lot of people like working out outside. Yoga on the beach, jogging, biking, hiking, or even working out in their garage that has a mini gym, are just some examples. That’ why I decided to write this post on how to work out in the heat!
Stay Hydrated
Make sure to stay hydrated. Of course this is obvious, but it’s also extremely important. Just a few weeks ago, when I was working at one of the Farmer’s Markets (I was under a tent too), I had to ask my neighboring tent friends if I could buy one of their drinks because I felt like I was going to pass out. It was hot, and I guess my body just did not adjust to the Florida heat yet. I was staying hydrated, but not enough.
Workout in the Morning
I know it sucks to wake up early, however that’s the best time to work out. You aren’t under the blazing sun if you workout mid morning-afternoon, along with not getting eaten alive by mosquitoes at night. This was a tip that I actually got from my neighbor about what the best time to do yard work would be.
Shady Areas
Try to stay in the shade. If there is no breeze, it won’t help that much, but at least you won’t be directly in the path of the sun.
Clothing Choices
Make sure to stay away from wearing all black. Choose to wear tanks and shorts, along with absorbent material. This will help keep you cool. This website, has some great workout gear that is super breathable, and comfy!
Take Out Your Extensions
For my ladies that wear extensions in their sleep (literally and figuratively), make sure to take them out when working out. Not only will this help keep your extensions in great condition, but it was also help with unnecessary overheating on your head. I use these hair ties which keep my hair completely out of my face, and no matter how hard I work out the hair tie doesn’t fall out. Plus, these types of hair ties are actually really good for your hair.
I hope these tips help y’all this summer! Stay cool!
