Monday Motivation Series: The Importance of a Grocery List and a Free Printable

Before I started shopping for my groceries online, I used to have a very particular grocery list.  Nowadays, I just add everything on to one list and go off of that, but when I used to physically go to the store, it was easier for me to separate by type of groceries, and by the location that it’s in the store.  I felt that when I had a grocery list, it was much easier for me to stay on track.  I have a very bad habit of buying junk food if I don’t have a list to stick to.  Or, if I don’t meal prep ahead of time (this is a printable that I will have for y’all in the future) I just buy whatever is easiest.  It’s so easy to buy something already pre-made.

Why should you have a grocery list?

So that you don’t forget a thing!

I’m one of the most forgetful people on the face of this planet.  Whenever I don’t have a grocery list, I always forget something important.  There is always one really important ingredient missing.  Which is why when I started making an actual grocery list, it helped significantly!

You can budget better.

If you are on a budget, when you make a grocery list you can compare prices while you’re at the store.  If you don’t have a list, you’re running around like a chicken with it’s head cut off and you don’t even pay attention to prices.  You can also budget better because you have something to stick to.  Now, you have a list of things you need to buy.  With a grocery list, you are able to write down the prices next to the list and add it up prior to check out.  That way, if there is anything that is not really needed, you can put it back.

Staying on track with your diet.

If you’re on a diet, or trying to eat healthier having a grocery list will also help.  I will have a free printable in the future for different types of diets (I’ve done a few, so I have great printables in the works for the 21 Day Fix, Keto, and Whole30).  When I’m on a diet, I like to meal prep and then take all of the ingredients from each meal and put it on my list.  This way, I can’t stray off of my meal plan because I have everything I need to stay on track.  Also, healthy food costs more (at least in my experience) so there’s no such thing as adding not needed items due to being on a budget.

You’re organized.

I’m an organized mess.  However, with certain things I’m extremely organized.  Being organized with my groceries may seem minute, but it helps significantly with at least something in my life haha!

Make sure to click here to get your free printable grocery list!  My blogger bestie Ellen from Ask Away Blog was the inspiration behind starting to offer y’all some printables.  She has a TON of free printables on her blog, so make sure to check out her blog!
