You may have heard bloggers or influencers out there talking about media kits. There are even people selling media kit templates, or selling services to create your own. While I don’t want to take away from business owners who are making money off of this, some of us don’t have that kind of budget. Maybe you’ve even opened up Photoshop to create one and don’t know where to start. This post will help you with all of that!
What is a media kit?
If you are new to the blogosphere, you might have been approached by brands asking to work with you and they have asked for your media kit. This is the easiest way to keep all of your analytics all in one spot. Some brands only want to see your Google Analytics, or if you’re an Instagram Influencer, they may ask for your Instagram Insights. If you don’t know what either of these things are, make sure to install Google Analytics on your blog (it shows the real traffic of your site) and change your Instagram to a creator/business account. That’s the only way you will be able to see your insights.
Your media kit is basically like you’re resume. It shows if you’ve received recognition, your following and engagement, and what you’re all about. Media kits are a good way to see if you are the right fit for a brand. Or, if you are pitching to brands to work with them, this is a really important attachment that should be in your email. It shows the brand that you are professional, even if you are a blogger. Oftentimes people don’t take bloggers or influencers seriously (there’s been a lot of recent publicity which I’ll talk about in a later post), and this is a great way to show you mean business!
This market of blogging/influencing is so saturated right now that you need to stand out. Don’t make this completely like a resume. Basically, take the idea of a resume and make it fun and creative. Put pictures on your media kit, because obviously if a brand wants to work with you, they need to see some of your best pictures.
How do I make one?
One word, CANVA! You can sit there and try to be super creative and come up with one in Photoshop, but if you aren’t familiar with Photoshop, that might be too advanced for you. Of course, go ahead and try it out, but it’s so easy to make one on Canva now. Believe it or not, I actually use Canva for a bunch of stuff here on my blog. Also, just as an fyi, this post isn’t sponsored by Canva in any way. Anyway, if you look at a lot of my collages, they are made with either Canva templates, or my own designs. I’m not as advanced in Photoshop, and for some it’s easier to make their own Photoshop things, but for those of us who aren’t as great with it, Canva is perfect!
There are a lot of things you can get from Canva for free, and then there are also some things that you have to pay for. But, even the things you’d have to pay for are really affordable. Anyway, here is the easiest way to make a Media Kit.
- Create a login for canva.
- Just search for media kits.
- Pick One. I chose this one:
- Everything else is pretty self explanatory! Easy peesy! When you’re done filling out that first page, just click on the second one. Once you’re done, you just click the download button (the little underlined arrow), and save it onto your computer in the format you prefer.
See? Super easy! It all happens at the click of a few buttons and some of your own creativity. You now will have a unique media kit (because you can customize any templates on Canva) and you didn’t have to even open up Photoshop!
xoxo Monica
