MY YOUTUBE SETUP IS CHANGING AGAIN!
As most of you know, back in December/January, my husband and I made one of our guest rooms into my Youtube studio. We added this accent wall, and bought a bunch of new equipment. Even though we never finished the setup (I know it’s been over half a year), it kind of worked out anyway. The reason being is because I’m going to have to move my setup. This room is turning into the baby’s room.

WHY WE DECIDED ON THIS BEING THE BABY’S ROOM
We do have another guest room in the house we’re renting, however, we decided this will be the baby’s room. Our reasoning is because the other guest room is facing the street, and we want our baby to have some privacy. In addition, the Youtube room has better ventilation than the guest room. The sun beats down on the guest room (also referred to as the pink room) and in order for the air conditioning to work in that room, we would have to blast it and even put a fan in there. That’s fine if we’re having people visit us for a week or two, but not for a baby’s room. Plus, this room has the least amount of things to move in it, because since I never finished my Youtube setup, I don’t have much to move around. The other guest room is also the room that Lilly and Zero like to go in during the day when we’re not home because they sun bathe in there. With all that being said, that’s the reasoning behind this change.

WHAT IT CURRENTLY LOOKS LIKE
I wanted to share what this room currently looks like, so that once we get all of the baby furniture in here I can show a before and after. My husband already has an idea for the changing table. I think I mentioned it a few weeks ago, but in case I didn’t, we are getting a tool box instead of a regular changing table. The drawers will be made for diapers, onesies, wipes, and whatever else I might need. Then we are getting padding for the top where the baby lays during getting changed because obviously, laying on a bare tool box would be kind of uncomfortable.

LILLY AND ZERO LOVE THIS ROOM
I’m not sure if Lilly and Zero love this room because I’m in it most of the time when I’m working on Youtube, or if they like the rug haha. Maybe it’s a combination of both. They’ve grown to love this room though, so I’m sure once the baby is here, they’ll be in here just as much. I have a feeling that they’re going to be the baby’s shadow. Of course, the baby will sleep in our room in the beginning in the bassinet. After that though, this will be the nursery.

MY CURRENT YOUTUBE EQUIPMENT
In case you are interested in knowing what I use for Youtube equipment, I did write an entire post about what I recommend and don’t recommend, if you click here. However, I am going to give a little bit of an update on my setup and how I’ve been liking the equipment I bought. I have a feeling that I will be updating this once we find a new spot for my Youtube setup, which will most likely be in our bedroom since that’s the only other space that I have a little bit of room to set myself up.
- Camera: I’ve been Sony mirrorless cameras for several years now and back at the beginning of the year I decided to upgrade to the Sony A6400. I was using my Sony A6000 for the longest time, but it’s not really built for recording long videos like the ones I create. It would also cut out after about 20 minutes which was super frustrating. This new camera has been amazing!
- Microphone: I’m in desperate need of a new microphone. I’ve been using this one for over a year now and it’s definitely served it’s purpose, but I do need a better one. This one has already cracked (I think I cracked it the one day when I was trying to pack it up into my camera bag). This microphone plugs right into the camera, and I need an external mic because the sound quality will be so much better. I’m hoping that once the baby is here and we figure out where we’re going to set me up I’ll be able to pick out a more professional mic. What I will say though, is if you’re just starting out with creating Youtube videos and you have a Sony, this mic is definitely a perfect spot to start.
- Lens: When I upgraded my camera, I also upgraded my lens. I’ve been using it in all of my videos and I really can’t praise it enough. I have used it for some of my blogging photos as well, but a lot of my recent photos have been taken on my phone. I either forget to bring my camera, or I just don’t feel like switching the lens to my other Sony camera. My A6000 is the camera I use for my blogging photos. It still serves it’s purpose for that, so I figured I could use one for photos and one for videos.
- Extra Batteries & Charger: These have been a game changer! Because I sometimes film videos back to back, I have to have backup batteries. I also am going to be helping out my brother in law with his newest venture, so I’ll be taking photos and I need backup batteries for that as well. The charger has been so helpful because before I was only charging one battery at a time.
- Tripods: I was using this tripod in the beginning of my youtube setup change, but I had to readjust myself because the lighting was a little off and I had to be farther away from where I was originally sitting. I’m sure if I had a ring light or different lighting, this would have still worked. However, I did move myself and now have to use a standing tripod. I can’t remember which one my husband bought for me, but I’ve used so many different standing tripods and they’ve all been great until I break them lol.
- Lighting: I bought this kit for my lighting. I’ve only used the box lights and haven’t played around with the colors yet. It’s super easy to set up, but I definitely think I should’ve started out with something easy like a ring light and worked my way into box lights. I’m still not 100% sure on how to use them, but I do my best!
- Memory Card: I bought a 128GB memory card for Youtube related things. It’s been great so far and has really helped. I’m able to film for a long ass time and I still have room to film more.
Are any of you creating content on Youtube? If so what equipment do you use? I’m always looking for new equipment and recommendations because I do believe I’ll be in the market for new equipment again.
