Flannel for the holidays & a Linkup

FLANNEL FOR THE HOLIDAYS

We all need a fun and casual outfit like this flannel for the holidays.  When I think of flannels, I think of the holidays and colder days.  Thankfully I haven’t seen snow in a very long time which has been nice.  I know I’ll eventually have to see it again because I do want Scarlett to experience snow since she’ll grow up in Florida.  Anyway, wearing this flannel has been hit or miss because it’s been in between weather.  One day it’s in the 70’s, the next it’s in the 50’s.

BABY UPDATE

I’ll be doing a full baby update at 3 months old, but I cannot believe we have a two month old as of yesterday! When these pictures were taken Scarlett had just turned one month old. I just can’t believe how fast time is flying. Now I understand how my mom feels whenever she says it felt like just yesterday she gave birth to me. I know two months is nowhere near the 34 years that I’ve been alive, but two months flew! We’re currently trying to establish some kind of schedule and routine. I know that she won’t have an actual schedule right away but that’s been challenging. She’s still not sleeping through the night and we have set backs. We’ll go a week with her doing so well and sleeping 5 hours straight through, and then the next week she’s waking up every half hour. I try to take naps when she takes naps but with the epilepsy I’ve been hesitant.
In case you didn’t know, my seizures happen within the first two hours of waking up. Which is why I’ve been a little concerned with napping. Plus, sometimes she’ll nap for 20 minutes and the next time she’ll nap for over an hour which is too inconsistent for my body. While I don’t want to be selfish, I need to take care of myself to be able to take care of her. I’m useless if I have a seizure. That’s meant to offend anyone who has epilepsy, but it takes me 24-48 hours to recover from one. I have my husband who would help, but I’m breastfeeding her and he can’t exactly do that for me lol.  Anyway, other than that, Scarlett is doing well. She started smiling a lot and I think she actually knows to smile because she’s doing it in the right situations. Maybe I’m wrong though.
She’s doing great with tummy time, although she does get frustrated easily (she’s definitely her father’s daughter lol) so we have decreased the amount of time for each tummy time and just increase the quantity of tummy times in a day. She’s very particular and likes things to be done in her own terms. Scarlett isn’t a fan of pacifiers/soothers so that’s been a challenge because she doesn’t know how to self soothe. When she cries, she doesn’t stop, no matter what we do. It makes me feel terrible that we can’t get her to stop because she just looks so sad and that breaks my heart. I still get discouraged when I see people posting all of their happy babies. It makes me feel like I’m doing something wrong. Maybe they are just posting highlights of all the good and none of the bad, but it’s still discouraging. Then I still feel guilty talking about any of the bad so it’s a lose lose situation. But I’ll save more if an in depth update for the three month update because maybe my feelings will change by then.

POSTPARTUM EPILEPSY UPDATE

The other day I realized it was the last day of November which was Epilepsy Awareness Month. I decided to share my blog post that I wrote this year about being a pregnant epileptic. Every year I write about my story and about epilepsy in general. This year, I had a different experience to write about and that was being pregnant. Not to mention experiencing postpartum as an epileptic. I had two people retweet it and a few people read the post so I wanted to write an update in today’s post so I can link it. Well, I went to my neurologist a few weeks ago. All seemed well and he decided to decrease my medication. If you read my epilepsy post I talked about how I started off with 125mg twice a day but by the end of pregnancy I was up to 200mg twice a day. My neurologist doesn’t want to put me all the way down to 125 again so he decided 150mg twice a day is good for now.

I did ask him about a few other things that the pediatrician said while we were at the hospital. To clarify, this was the hospital pediatrician not our pediatrician that we love. Anyway, there were multiple things that pediatrician said that my neurologist said was complete bullshit. With that said, always ask questions and get second opinions. I knew what the pediatrician was saying was bullshit but he made me feel like a shit mom because he was providing me with misinformation. My neurologist was not pleased to say the least. I don’t want to talk about the specifics of what they said about Scarlett (it’s not my medical information to be talking about) but just know it was complete bullshit. It’s sad that I, as someone who didn’t go to medical school, knew the pediatrician was spewing misinformation. Anyway, I will be contacting the hospital and the medical board because the misinformation he was speaking could be very dangerous. Now that I’ve gone off topic, that’s the epilepsy update so far during postpartum.
