DIY bottles

I found this picture last year on Facebook and I fell in love.  It just looks so beautiful and I promised myself that when I get my own place again I will have these hanging outside on my porch.  

After showing my mom this picture a few weeks ago she said well why don’t you just put them up on your window or balcony window?  I decided that I would start collecting brown glass bottles.  Well I didn’t find any until one of my coworkers gave me this Vitamin C drink when I was feeling sick that came in these small brown bottles.  As soon as I was done drinking one a light bulb went off in my head.  I asked her if she could give me the brown bottles once she was done drinking them.  

This was my finished product.  I know it doesn’t look like the picture but I am showing you what they are supposed to look like up close and what they look like in my room (sorry it’s a bit dark in my room).

The second two pictures are just so you can see what they look like with a little more light.  It looks really awesome in my room, just the lighting is a little dark.  So let’s move on to the part where I tell you how I did it.  It’s actually extremely simple so you can do this in no time by yourself.

First step is to soak the bottles to remove the labels and wash them as well.  It’s not seen in this picture but I also used a brown beer bottle.  I can’t stress enough how much you should thoroughly wash these because well you don’t want sticky  vitamin c juice spilling or old beer, yuck!

Your Essentials

{I bought most of these items at Michael’s or other craft stores}

Scissors (You can’t really see them that much sorry!)

Pliers

Needle and thread

Wire

Fabric flowers (or real ones if you have them)

Brown Bottles

Any Extra buttons or whatever you want to put on your bottles

Step 1:

Choose which flowers you want in which bouquet.  Tie all of the flowers that will be in the bottle together.  I used the gold wire, but you can tie them any way you prefer.

Step 2:

For the one bottle I attached a wooden butterfly to the bouquet of flowers.  This I just simply sewed on to the bouquet.  I wrapped it around and made a few knots.

Step 3:  

For the one big flower, I attached a gold vintage looking button.  I also sewed this onto the flower.  Since they are fabric it’s very easy to be able to add little things here and there with just using a needle and thread.

After all three of these steps if you would like to just leave these bottles as center pieces (which I will probably end up doing once I’m bored) feel free!  If not keep reading.

Step 4:  

Take the mini bouquets out of the bottles.  Cut the gold wire into long pieces.  One of them I made about 12 inches long.  

Step 5:  

Wrap it around the top of the bottle, and do a test to make sure that these are securely wrapped.  It is very important because remember these are GLASS bottles, if they fall they shatter.  (I am not responsible for any injuries as I have warned you to make sure they are secure and if you are not confident then DO NOT hang them)

Step 6:

Take the bottles attached to the wire and wrap them where you’d like to hang them.  Just please be careful because like I said and will reiterate they are glass.  Then, just put the flowers back in and VOILA you are finished!

Just to give you guys a little bit of background information about the lovely pin cushion that was shown in a picture at the beginning.  I made this for my mom for her 40th birthday which was 16 years ago (I was 9).  I was learning how to sew and I made a cushion in the shape of a heart for her.  I was so proud of this and it actually used to say Happy 40th Birthday on it but now it’s just a cushion with no words.  My mom still uses it to this day and she always talks about how cute it was when I brought it to her.
