“The scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity. That’s it. It cannot measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, possibility, strength, or love. Don’t give the scale more power than it has earned. Take note of the number, then get off the scale and live your life. You are beautiful!” – Steve Maraboli
When you normally think about a fitness journey you usually
focus on weight loss, at least at first, if not all the time. Even though there are so many other factors
to a health and fitness journey and sometimes (more times than not in my case)
that scale is just going to bring you down.
I always tell my challengers to think of other things instead of the
scale. Think of a pair of pants you want
to fit into, or think of just how you feel.
When you start to get healthier you just feel different. I’ve seen a lot of fitness people that don’t
even use the scale anymore. If you have
ever seen a comparison picture and the person put the weight in the caption,
sometimes it looks completely different because muscle weighs more than
fat. A few weeks ago I was discouraged
when I stepped on the scale because I had gained 3lbs. Then I looked at my progress pictures and my
measurements had changed for the better.
I was starting to gain muscle! I
decided for this post I’m putting the scale down and I’m going to list all of
my non scale victories since starting my journey in June.

- How I feel. I’m more
energized than ever before! - Challenging myself. I’m
challenging myself more and more, and not just physically. I’m starting to challenge myself to doing
things I never thought I’d do before. - First my pants were just starting to get lose. Then I had to buy new pants, and recently I
had to buy new pants AGAIN! I’m swimming
in my clothes! - I’m a size 4 at Banana Republic.
- This may be too much info, but my period is regulated. Before it was all over the place!
- I feel confident again.
- I purchased a PANT SUIT!
I would’ve never done that before! - My boyfriend noticed that I feel more attractive. He even tested me one day and while I was
munching away during a cheat day he said “ok fatty” and I for the FIRST TIME IN
MY LIFE, said I’M NOT FAT! He looked at
me and said that’s exactly what I was hoping you would say, I was testing
you. He also said that he would’ve felt
really bad if I didn’t reply the way he 99.9% knew I would haha! - I can make it home after work without feeling like I need to
pull over so I don’t fall asleep at the wheel. - I rarely have food comas, unless it’s cheat day!
- I lost 10 inches in my waist, and 5 inches in each thigh.
- I became a Beach Body Coach because of my success and I
truly believe in this program.
I can basically keep going, but I think you get the idea. These are all things that have happened
during my health and fitness journey. I
will never regret the day that I agreed to making a serious commitment to the
21 day fix, and continuing even after the first 21 days. It’s now been almost 10 months that I changed
my lifestyle. My weight has fluctuated
because I’ve lost, plateaued, gained, and basically gone back and forth between
the three. This is why I don’t pay
attention to the scale anymore because even with the fluctuating weight, my
inches lost keep increasing, my pants are getting bigger and bigger, and my
body is transforming in my progress photos.
