Women’s Heart Disease Blogger Collab

Dress:  Target // Shoes:  Target

Today I want to bring awareness to Women’s Heart Disease.  I’ve teamed up with a bunch of bloggers to raise awareness and wear red in our blogs today.  I decided that today I wanted to write a really informative post.  There will be a lot resources cited at the bottom of this post because I obviously did not study medicine and am also not a doctor.

Did you know that in the USA, 1 in 4 women die from heart disease?  The most common cause of this disease in both men and women is a narrowing or a blockage of the coronary arteries.  These coronary arteries are the blood vessels that supply blood to the heart.  This happens slowly over time and is the major reason people have heart attacks.  There are two heart diseases that affect both men and women which are listed below:

  • Coronary microvascular disease (MVD)-which is a problem that affects the tiny arteries in the heart
  • Broken heart syndrome-extreme emotional stress leading to severe but often short-term heart muscle failure.

I didn’t even know that Broken heart syndrome existed.  Along with all of this information, the older a woman gets, the higher the chance of developing heart disease.

So, what are symptoms of heart disease/heart attacks in women to look for that may help in reducing the risks?

  • Neck, jaw, shoulder, upper back or abdominal discomfort
  • Shortness of breath
  • Pain in one of both arms
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Sweating
  • Lightheadedness or dizziness
  • Unusual fatigue

According to Mayo Clinic, these symptoms can be more subtle than the obvious crushing chest pain that is often associated with heart attacks.    Women tend to describe the chest pain as a pressure or a tightness.  The symptoms in women may also occur more often when they are resting, or even when they are asleep.  Mental stress may also have an impact on heart attack symptoms in women.

What are some Heart Disease risk factors for women?

  • Diabetes
  • Mental stress and depression
  • Smoking
  • Inactivity
  • Menopause
  • Broken heart syndrome
  • Pregnancy complications

Alright, so how can women reduce their risk of heart disease?

  • Quit or don’t start smoking
  • Exercise regularly
  • Maintain a healthy weight
  • Eat a healthy diet

I hope you found this post useful, and don’t forget to check out all of the bloggers who came together for this awareness post!

You look great Monica! Love off the shoulder ruffles and awesome backdrop. This is also such a helpful post and I learned something new today thanks to you! I didn’t even know that there is such a thing as a broken heart syndrome. Goes to show us though that any emotional stress can put such a heavy weight on our heart and affect us. Wishing you a wonderful day ahead and happy Tuesday!

I didn’t know about Broken Heart Syndrome either! However, it does make sense, because it’s a lot of stress and that affects our bodies in so many ways. Happy Tuesday!

I am so happy you got to join me for one last but fabulous February Collaboration. This one was my favorite from the three. We all look stunning in our LRDs but also come on what a great cause! Your off-shoulder dress is beautiful on you. You look elegant and vixen-ish (I mean that as a huge compliment) at the same time. Smoking body. Also great photos by the stairs. And thank you so much for all the Heart Awareness facts!

Have a fantastic day and I cannot wait for future collabs, Monica. =))

I love all the facts you listed about heart disease. It’s all very important to know. I have never been a smoker and I eat pretty healthy. I could add some more exercise. I love this look on you!

I didn’t know about most of these things either, until I did some research for this collab. It’s crazy how much our heart takes on.
