Hey y’all! Since it’s 2019 I know a bunch of people will be working on their new years resolution of being healthier and happier, so for today’s post I wanted to talk about my experience of doing 30 Days of Yoga with Adriene on Youtube. I’m doing this in the month of December because my fiance will be gone out of state for work and since he’s my best friend, I have no one who will be able to calm me down or help me de-stress. So, I took it upon myself to try and de-stress on my own. I have always wanted to love yoga because I used to dance when I was younger and I also know how calm and zen it can help people be. I was never able to get into it, so my hope was to do this 30 day challenge and find a new way of working out that I like. Plus, there are so many benefits from practicing yoga. I didn’t expect to become a yogi, but I did expect to become a healthier and happier version of myself. The best part was that my dog Zero had to do yoga with me. Her favorite pose is downward dog. Whenever I go into downward dog, she copies me. With all of that being said, let’s get into this review along with a journal just like my last review of the Whole30. Now, I also have to preface that I didn’t follow any particular diet with this program. I indulged and I also ate healthy, so my results may not be the same as some people. I’m also excited because while I was doing this program, Adriene announced that she would be doing another 30 days in 2019, which I actually finished last week and will also be reviewing in the next few weeks.
30 DAYS OF YOGA JOURNAL
Day 1-5
Yoga is amazing. It’s helping me relax and calm down a bit. However, on Day 3 I thought I wasn’t going to be able to do yoga. We had to evacuate our apartment and when we were finally allowed back in I didn’t want to do yoga, but once we were all back and settled I told my fiance that I had to do yoga. That was the best decision because it helped me calm down from what had happened and I just felt better in general. On Day 5 I almost didn’t do yoga because I had worked 12 hours and got home extremely late, but I did it!
Day 6-7
It was the weekend and I still stuck to it. I even have photo evidence of my little pup attempting to do Yoga with me. If you followed my Instastories throughout the past 30 days, you would have seen little updates of her doing yoga with me haha.
Day 8-14
My fiance is officially on the road for work. He will be out of state and gone for about a month maybe longer. I decided that the time that he is away will be for myself. I will try my best to take care of myself and my health. It’s a lot harder with him around, especially when it comes to dieting. We shall see how long it takes before I crack and lose my mind without him being home haha! Anyway, for the rest of the days listed above I followed the yoga videos every day, and did feel better after doing them. I’ve felt a little more calm, and I noticed that I’m starting to get a little more flexible and strong. I even attempted crow, which I held for about 0.5 seconds haha!
Day 15-21
It’s a new week, and I must say, I’m looking forward to doing Yoga. It has helped me relax a little bit, and I feel like I am really doing something great for my body. I’m halfway (day 15) done with the program, and I really don’t know what I’m going to do when it’s done. I might do the 30 days again, or I’ll venture into what else Adriene has on her channel. On day 19 I got home really late, but I did yoga anyway! Then on day 20 I did yoga with my mom. She had a little bit of a tough time, but she will get there eventually haha!
Day 22-29
I can’t believe I’m almost done with this program. It amazes me because I showed up every day for yoga, and I’m so proud of myself. I feel like I really accomplished something with this program. I also feel so much better physically. I think I’m starting to even tone up a little bit!
Day 30
Today Adriene did things a little differently. She told us that today’s Yoga Practice would not be taught by her. Today was our day to do our own Yoga. Of course she did her own thing on the screen, but I took this a challenge for myself (when it comes to workouts, I’m better at following someone else’s orders than coming up with my own), and I did 20 minutes worth of my own Yoga.
BEFORE AND AFTER
I used my before picture from my Whole30 progress photo, because I started the 30 days of yoga less than a week later. As I said earlier in this post, I did not follow any strict diet while doing this, so my results might have been better if I did follow a better clean eating diet.
PROS
- I was calmer and more relaxed through a very stressful time.
- I stuck with it.
- I felt like I was really doing something amazing for my body.
- Doing this every day, is definitely something I see myself continuing.
CONS
- I honestly cannot think of any cons from this program. I enjoyed myself and what my body was capable of.
NON SCALE VICTORIES
- Physically and mentally felt great
- Calmer
- Had fun doing yoga with my pups (keep scrolling for pictures)
- I showed up on my mat every single day
- Felt accomplished
YOGA WITH DOGS
Above are a few pictures of my pups doing yoga with me. I think my pitbull loved it more than me haha! If you were following along on my Instastories you would’ve seen all of the pictures I was posting. I couldn’t believe the first time she did downward dog. Then there was one day where I said “mama’s gonna go do yoga” and she did downward dog and ran into the living room and waited for me to get my mat out haha.
CONCLUSION
I can definitely see myself continuing this. I have fallen in love with Yoga! I’m going to keep everyone updated on how often I do Yoga and how I’m feeling. Make sure to start tuning into the blog every Monday for my Monday Motivation Series. This will be health and fitness related, and will include reviews of diets/programs, recipes, body positivity, etc.

I love the yoga with dog photos, 😂 I have a cat so I can relate. He sees me down on the floor and he thinks it’s play time.

I honestly can see a difference in your body in those pics. You look stronger in the one on the right! I should do this as I need to get into a routine and I think yoga would help with anxiety and building muscle!

Monica, that’s awesome and you look great! I have tried Yoga in the past and it really does amazing things regarding mental and physical strength. I am glad you kept up with it because really showing up to the gym or any workout is the hardest. So kudos! I hope all is well and yay to mid-week!

I love the idea of yoga. My dogs think it means playtime though and playing tug isn’t conducive to relaxing haha! xx
