Dress: Shein // Boots: Gifted (similar here)
One of the goals that I wrote about in last week’s 2019 Resolution post was to save some money. I want to be able to have emergency money, but also save money for a house, wedding, or extra retirement money. That’s why in today’s post I wanted to talk about fashion on a budget. Don’t get me wrong, if I had more money, I’d probably have my dream Chanel bag, and maybe some Christian Louboutin’s in my closet, but unfortunately, I do not have that kind of money. I think that even if I did have that kind of money, I would still bargain shop because I find it fun.
Shein, is a brand that I’m sure y’all have been hearing a lot about lately. A lot of people I’ve talked to are hesitant about trying them out because of some mishaps that have happened in the past with sizing and what not. I’ve been working with Shein since I first started this blog back in 2013, and I must say their quality has definitely gotten better. Their shipping is much faster, and it’s just all around better. I’ve also ordered off of Shein without anything having to do with my blog. Out of the past 5+ years of ordering/working with Shein, I have only had a few “flops.” The great part is, is that Shein carries trendy pieces, so why am I going to buy thousands of dollars on trendy pieces, when I can pay under $100 (maybe even under $50) for the same trendy pieces that I’ll only wear for one season. I have quite a number of pieces from Shein. Some of the pieces that I still wear are from years ago. This particular dress I’m wearing in this post is from Shein. I personally love it. The quality is great. It’s just as pictured on their website.
Now, another way that I’m going to start saving money, is I’m not going to be shopping as much. I’m going to start reusing items that are in my closet, or if I can find a good consignment shop, I might try that as well. My fiance’s mom actually found these shoes at a consignment shop by us. I was extremely surprised because we live in the middle of nowhere and these shoes were in great condition. It looks like the person who bought them, wore them maybe a handful of times and then said nah, not my thing. Shopping at places like that kind of remind me of my college days. For those of you who don’t know, when I went for my Bachelor’s I was a Fashion minor. In one of my classes, we had a project (which I believe was our final) where we had to go to a consignment shop by our school, Lowes, and Walmart. We could only spend a specific amount of money, but it had to be something that told a story, or something that we would actually wear. Well, I went to the consignment shop, and found an old tshirt. I cut it up and on the back I hand drew my favorite band’s (at the time) album cover. I bought a plaid skirt at Walmart, and when I went to Lowes, I bought some chain for a belt. So I basically made this outfit a rocker/chic look. Needless to say, I received an A on that project, and I still kept the top and skirt. I actually eventually wore that top to that band’s concert and got them to sign it. I haven’t worn it since I got it signed haha.
It’s very easy to shop on a budget. I wrote a post about this last year which you can read, here.

These are beautiful photos Monica and those boots look amazing on you. I agree with you on shopping and shopping on a budget. I personally don’t like to spend a lot of money on clothes especially if later than the road you no longer love it. I think it is wasteful but to each it’s own as I know it’s part of the territory as a blogger. I have heard of Shein but have not bought anything from them. I have to try them out some time. They really carry some of the cutest items I have seen including your dress that you are wearing here. I hope you are having an awesome week so far and happy belated birthday to your mom!

If you ever order from Shein, the one thing I tell everyone is always check the size guide. There sizes are a little different, and they tend to run small.

I’m with you on the shopping less/shopping my closet more resolution. I’m trying not to shop until my birthday in March, which is going to be a challenge, but I’m up for it! I hope you meet your financial goals too!

Yes, I have so many things going on within the next few months that I really can’t shop, so I’m hoping that’ll force me to stick to this and not shop for more shoes. LOL, I should really go through my closet and pick out what I don’t wear and put it in a pile so that I can see just how much I’m wasting.

I’m a frugal shopper, too. I do find it harder to send for items because of fitting issues. It’s good to hear Shein has upped their game. With your background, do you ever find yourself refashioning things? I enjoy when I can find something at the thrift store and modify it to make something I love.

At one point recently I was thinking about making my own clothing, but nowadays with how expensive fabric is, it would probably cost me more than if I were to just buy it in stores. I’ll be shopping my own closet until I feel that I really need something and I know I’ll wear it more than once.
