Last year I did a week of all things purple here on the
blog. November is epilepsy awareness
month. Epilepsy is a neurological disorder
marked by sudden recurrent episodes of sensory disturbance, loss of
consciousness, or convulsions, associated with abnormal electrical activity in
the brain (thanks google!). Pretty much,
your brain likes to short circuit and cause some disturbances which leads to
seizures. There are many different types
of epilepsy and different types of seizures.
I’ve even read of some seizures being just blank stares. Someone can just stare off into space and
this is considered a seizure, or you have seizures that are violent
convulsions. I know it can be scary to
witness a seizure but you always have to remember to stay calm. I decided to go on WebMD and find some tips
on what to do if you witness someone having a seizure. I can tell you what the doctor has told me
but let’s make sure we have some kind of source to back up these’s tips:

but let’s make sure we have some kind of source to back up these’s tips:
- Loosen clothing around the person’s neck.
- Do not try to hold the person down or restrain them. This can result in injury.
- Do not insert any objects in the person’s mouth. This can also cause injury.
- Reassure concerned bystanders who may be upset and ask them
to give the person room. - Remove sharp objects from around the person to prevent
injury. - After the seizure it is helpful to lay the person on their
side to maintain an open airway and prevent the person from inhaling any
secretions. - After a seizure, the person may be confused and should not
be left alone. - In many cases, especially if the person is known to have
epilepsy, it is not necessary to call 911. - Call 911 if the seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, or if
another seizure begins soon after the first, or if the person cannot be
awakened after the movements have stopped.
Now that you’ve read about some information, let’s move on
to the outfit shall we? I decided to
wear a purple sweater today here on the blog so that I can bring awareness to
this condition. I paired it with black
and my favorite, leopard print. This
sweater is so comfortable and warm. It
feels like you’re wearing a big blanket, but the color is so rich and
beautiful. Stay tuned for the link up

I used to think that seizures were all the same and violently convulsive. I'm sure there are a lot of people out there that think the same. It wasn't until my doctor had thrown the idea that I could have epilepsy that I started doing research. Thank God I found out I am not epileptic. I also had to do a lot of research on canine epilepsy when Audrey started having seizures. Hers are very different looking and a lot of people probably wouldn't be able to tell that she is having a seizure. As of right now, it seems that her seizures are caused by anxiety and certain ingredients in food and treats. So *knock on wood* the seizures are maintained right now.

Thank you so much for writing this and brining awareness. My cousin suffers from epilepsy and my family has had to learn a lot. This will be pretty helpful to people who are affected by the condition.

You look beautiful, Monica! I love you in purple. And I love that you're getting involved with epilepsy awareness. My high school boyfriend and my family's dog both had epilepsy and it's terrible. It's definitely not discussed enough!
